‘The Sandlot’ to be shown on the big screen at Syracuse baseball stadium

“You’re killing me, Smalls.” “Some lady named… Ruth. Baby Ruth.” “For-ev-er! For-ev-er!”

The highly quotable movie “The Sandlot” will be shown on the big screen at NBT Bank Stadium next month for Hospice of CNY’s “A Film on the Field.” The event, presented by Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY, will take place Thursday, Aug. 18 inside the home of the Syracuse Mets baseball team.

Attendees will be allowed to bring a blanket or chair and sit in the outfield — or sit in the stadium seats — to watch the 1993 family film at dusk. The night will include pre-show entertainment, food from concession stands, and fireworks after the movie.

General admission entry opens at 5:30 pm, and a VIP party will begin at 6 pm in the stadium’s redesigned Metropolitan Club.

General admission tickets are $25 per person through filmonthefield.givesmart.com; ages 5 and under are $5 per person. Each person receives a small popcorn and up to two blankets per party of 4.

Add-Ons are available for $100 (Per Table/Up to Four People), which includes reserved seating at a 4-Top Table and a $5 food voucher per person.

VIP Experience tickets, which include live music, exclusive buffet options, an open bar for one hour, and premier seating, are $150 per person. VIP party guests and sponsors can stay and watch the film in the air conditioning, on one of the weather-sheltered seats or on the outfield.

Proceeds from the event will support the Hospice of Central New York and Hospice of the Finger Lakes.

“A Film on the Field will not be your traditional, run-of-the-mill fundraising event. It’s designed for everyone to let loose, have fun, be entertained, and support a cause that encourages living life to the fullest!” the event website says.

“The Sandlot,” written and directed by David Mickey Evans, follows a young boy named Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) who moves to a new town in the summer of 1962 and joins a rowdy neighborhood baseball team, embarking on a series of adventures that include a giant dog named The Beast and a baseball signed by Babe Ruth… “The Great Bambino!” The cast includes Mike Vitar (as Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez), Patrick Renna, Brandon Quintin Adams, Art LaFleur, James Earl Jones, Denis Leary, Karen Allen, Marley Shelton and Arliss Howard.
