Hochul is not yet governor, but the 2022 race will be hot

NEW YORK – Appeals for donations are made, meetings with advisors are planned.

But potential Democratic candidates for governorship in 2022 are watching Kathy Hochul.

Her tenure and reservoir of goodwill across the country put her in the strongest position in what is certainly a jam-packed elementary school.

“Western New York is a microcosm of the rest of the state,” she told Spectrum News in March.

What you need to know

  • Kathy Hochul doesn’t want to focus on the 2022 bid, but it’s not far
  • The native Ox needs to strengthen the bonds down and them with Cuomo. separate
  • Those who challenge them include Letitia James, Jumaane Williams

For the Buffalo native, staging in Downstate and New York City would be vital to her bid for a full term, as would a moderation of her centrist policies and a clear break in her ties with Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Hochul has not officially announced its election plans.

Others who are believed to be considering a run similarly wait.

There is Attorney General Letitia James, whose investigation into Cuomo sparked his downfall.

There’s public attorney Jumaane Williams, who almost defeated Hochul in the 2018 primary for lieutenant governor.

“Again, it’s always an honor for people to mention your name,” he told NY1 on Tuesday. “I think there is a lot of time to discuss this. For the next few days, at least, I would like to concentrate on getting the state up and running. “

When asked by @ErrolLouis if he would consider running for governor next year, Public Advocate @JumaaneWilliams doesn’t rule it out, but says he wants to focus now on making sure that Kathy Hochul can be a successful governor. # NY1Politics https://t.co/wCMZ26IJNP pic.twitter.com/FwjSHi13PE

There is Mayor Bill de Blasio, perhaps Cuomo’s best-known political nemesis.

“I haven’t excluded or excluded anything,” he said earlier this month.

There is MP Tom Suozzi, who ran for governor in 2006 and was shy.

“What I learned while running last time was ‘man costume, un god laughs’, which means ‘man plans and god laughs’, so don’t plan,” Suozzi told NY1 on Tuesday.

There are also State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The Republican primary could also be competitive. Rep. Lee Zeldin has support through the creation of the GOP.

Andrew Giuliani, son of the former New York City Mayor, is known.

Former Governor George Pataki didn’t throw his hat in the ring but he did hold the record and left the door open.

“I think about New York’s having this crisis behind us so we can move forward together, but I’ve also learned that in politics you never say never,” he told Spectrum News on Tuesday. “You look at things where they are and see what happens at the right time.”

“It’s a sad day, but it was an inevitable day,” the former @GovernorPataki told Spectrum News, responding to @NYGovCuomo’s announcement of his resignation. # NY1Politics https://t.co/wCMZ26IJNP pic.twitter.com/1Kx7DxizNd

And there is also speculation that Cuomo might make another offer himself. After all, he has $ 18 million in his war chest.
