The Suffolk County Police Department is warning families to keep an eye on their children’s candy wrappers after catching a chain of grocery stores selling cannabis-infused gummy candy.

Authorities say they found edible gummies high in THC sold at the Organically Connected chain of stores, which has outlets in Port Jefferson, Patchogue and Huntington.

Police say the product packaging can be easily mistaken for regular candy and are urging parents to read the labels very carefully.

Steve Chassman of the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence says he’s concerned about packaging and the dangers of THC to minors.

“If you look at the packaging, it’s clearly geared towards young people, people under the age of 21. Brace yourself because the $1 billion marketing rush will target young adults,” he said.

News 12 tried to get comment from the store’s managers, but they didn’t answer the door.

The Office of Cannabis Management has also issued “cease and desist” orders on the stores.
