Binghamton Notes

  • Binghamton fell 25:13 against Stanford last Sunday. Dimitri Gamkreilidze, Jacob Nolan and Lou DePrez led with wins for BU.

  • DePrez, who struggled with 197 pounds this season, leads Binghamton with a 6-0 record. He already has a Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open title and a victory over a ranked Nick Stemmet from Stanford (No. 26).

  • Brevin Cassella, Binghamton’s other Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open champion, is set to return to the 165-pound weight class this weekend. He is 6-3 in the young season after suffering a narrow loss to 174-pound Stanford Tyler Eischens (# 30) last weekend.

  • # 28 Nolan continued his strong start to the season, winning in his final fight by an important decision against Judah Duhm. He’s 8-1 of the year, with his only loss to Cornell’s No. 9 Chris Foca at the Bearcat Open.

  • Anthony Sobotker and Nick Lombard each have five wins this season. All of Sobotker’s five wins came in the fall, including an emphatic pin against Rutgers number 12 Sammy Alvarez.

  • Joe Doyle scored 1-1 with a pin in the season opener Rutgers quad meeting and will return against Toby Cahill on Sunday.

Spying on buffalo

  • Buffalo started the season 0-3, with all three losing to ranked opponents.

  • In his most recent duel against No. 4 Michigan, Cahill had the team’s only heavyweight win.

  • The 133-pounder Derek Spann has been consistently strong for the bulls over the past four years. The graduate student is 66-28 for his career and is a former NCAA qualifier.

  • The Bulls won the last duel between the two teams, 20-15 in 2019. Current members Spann, John Arceri and Michael Petite all had wins. The current Bearcats DePrez and Doyle had wins for BU.
