Stantec, a global integrated design company, announced the promotion of four key professionals to the Senior Leadership Team for its global Buildings practice.
The company has appointed David Martin as practice-wide design director for buildings. He will work with design leaders and carbon/climate leaders to advance the company’s design thinking, advance design culture, unite the company’s design community, and advance practice.
Based in the company’s studio in London, UK, Martin has led the design of numerous award-winning facilities across North America, Canada and the UK. A champion of design, he is a regular thought contributor to industry publications and global design conferences.
Darren Burns has been promoted to Lead in Innovation for Buildings while continuing to lead the commercial sector. He will build relationships to encourage cross-fertilization of innovation and creativity and capitalize on new business opportunities and strategic partnerships. Burns will lead the research, development and dissemination of new technologies and innovative ideas across the practice to bring new value to clients.
Burns works from Stantec’s studio in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has led diverse project teams in the development of commercial, retail, healthcare, education and mixed-use projects across North America, applying design and technology to solve complex challenges.
Head of Building Technology
As leader of the Structural Engineering disciplines, Jason Smith will inspire and uphold engineering design excellence, technical standards and practice while driving strategic direction and practice advancement in Stantec’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and civil engineering disciplines.
Based in Seattle, Washington, Smith previously led the company’s engineering design and team leadership across multiple sectors.
Disciplinary leader, project management
Michael Harris has been appointed Senior Vice President, Project Management. In this role, he brings new rigor to Stantec’s approach to project management by developing policies, standards, and protocols for use by project teams. Leading a team of professional project managers, he will support the execution of large, complex and strategic projects driven by practice through excellence in project management, commercial management and project control.
Harris is based in Albany, New York and previously served as principal project lead for the US Buildings Practice and the Buildings US Federal Team.
