Sankofa African-American Theater presents ‘Pretty Fire’ in Harrisburg

The next production by the Sankofa African American Theater Company is coming to the Gamut Theater in Harrisburg.

“Pretty Fire” is written by Charlayne Woodard and tells the story of a young girl and her sister who grow up outside of Albany, New York and Rosignol Hill, Georgia. Their stories are told in a series of vignettes, with moments of harrowing racism as well as uplifting family ties.

“Charlayne Woodard has woven music, history and storytelling together in such a way that hopefully audiences will be inspired and inspired by our personal life experiences,” said Lyeneal Griffin, director of the play, in a press release. “Gaining a deeper perspective and gratitude for how these experiences made what we have become in the world today.”

The show runs from July 30th to August 8th at the Gamut Theater in Harrisburg. The performances take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 7.30 p.m. and Sundays at 2.30 p.m. For details or tickets, visit the Sankofa website here.
