The 8-year-old little girl and her 76-year-old grandfather were killed in a tragic house fire in the town of Clay last month just before Thanksgiving.

“Nezzy was one of the most extraordinary students I have ever met. She worked so hard at school.”

Paige Porta, Nezamiyah’s 3rd grade teacher at the Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse.

A life taken too soon. 8-year-old Nezamiyah White was a special little girl and a friend to everyone. Those who loved her called her “Nezzy”, including her classmates and teachers.

“There are so many students at school who have felt so connected to her because she was just such a great friend to everyone and so kind all the time,” says Porta.

Her family must now plan Nezamiyah’s funeral after she was killed on Tuesday November 22nd.

Nezamiyah and her grandfather, 76-year-old Anthony Wild, were unable to escape the family home that was on fire. Friends, family and the community were invited to the fundraiser’s spaghetti dinner, with all proceeds going to benefit Nezamiyah’s family.

“To help with the expenses of the funeral and to help the family move to a new home and try to replenish some things that they lost to the fire,” says Porta.

Saturday’s fundraiser raised $1,100.
