QB target has ‘Cuse in top 3, women lax in 5th

Maurice Williams Jr., a talented and fast-rising quarterback in the Class of 2024, recently visited Orange Football as part of the team’s Syracuse Junior Day.

According to an article by SyracuseOnSI editor Mike McAllister, at this stage in his recruiting process, the 6-foot-tall, 190-pound Williams says the ‘Cuse is “definitely in my top 3.”

Of course, that’s great to hear, although Williams may still have a long way to go in his recruitment and his list of other strong suitors keeps growing. Williams is a junior standout at Orange High School in Orange, NJ

According to his bio on the 247Sports website, in addition to Syracuse Orange football, college rosters showing an interest in Williams include Boston College, Maryland, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Temple.

Williams told McAllister, in part, “The visit definitely opened my eyes to a lot. The way all the coaches showed love, the fact that my name was known. It definitely makes me understand recruiting in Syracuse. Syracuse is definitely in my top 3 in terms of recruitment as they have been recruiting me for so long and how much love they have shown in the process.”

We will definitely continue to follow Williams’ recruitment process.

Because women are high in pre-season polls
The Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team is ranked #5 nationally in the recently released ILWomen/IWLCA preseason poll, according to SU Athletics.

Before a stanza, the ‘Cuse won 15-6 on aggregate and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.

The Syracuse Orange is among three Atlantic Coast Conference rosters ranked in the top five in this preseason poll, led by defending champion North Carolina, who sits at No. 1.

With the upcoming 2023 season, expectations are understandably high in Central New York for the ‘Cuse, who is bringing back four of his top five scorers from a year ago. The Syracuse Orange is led by graduate student Meaghan Tyrrell, who was a 2022 Tewaaraton Award finalist and scored 111 points last season.

As we noted in another recent column, Tyrrell was named 2023 Division I Women’s Preseason Player of the Year by Lacrosse Magazine.

The Syracuse Orange women’s lacrosse team will begin their 2023 verse against No. 4 Northwestern at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday, February 11. The full ‘Cuse 2023 schedule is available here.
