“A few kind words are enough”: Hamburg family thankful for Bill’s game

HAMBURG, NY (WIVB) – Many Bills fans are still reeling after yesterday’s loss, but one Hamburg family is thankful for the great opportunity to attend the game.

It was the first time for a Bills fan to see a game at Highmark Stadium in person. Despite the loss, he said it was a fun experience and it all started when he was drawing the team’s logo at school.

“Art is my favorite subject at school because I can paint too. And we can make fun crafts,” said Tyler Darling, a 7-year-old second grader.

Tyler’s mother, Christina, says her son started making art when he was two years old and she’s always amazed by what he can create.

“Tyler is an amazing, sweet, smart, funny, loving, caring, artistic boy,” Christina Darling told News 4.

Tyler’s favorite subject at school is art and his favorite sports team is the Bills. During a school retreat Thursday, Tyler drew the Bills logo and took it home on the bus. When other students saw the drawing, they made fun of him. His mother said Tyler cried when he got home from school.

“He bullied me and told me the Bills drawing didn’t look like the Bills logo,” Tyler said. “[I felt] sad. I cried all day.”

A social media post about Tyler’s story went viral and Bill’s mafia stepped in to lift Tyler and his family up. He and his mother got tickets to the divisional playoff game against the Bengals.

“I didn’t expect them to do all of that, but I was pretty happy,” Tyler said.

“It was incredible to sit there and think that such a wonderful thing is related to such a negative thing,” Christina added.

Christina says she’s grateful for the support, but encourages everyone to be kind to others.

“A few kind words go a long way. You don’t understand what a simple word can mean to someone,” Christina said.

As for Tyler, he says he wants to be an artist when he grows up, known for his painting and craft skills.

“I’ll probably be famous. Well, I’m famous already… busy!” Tyler finished.
