William McDonald Obituary (1935 – 2022) – Rensselaer, NY

William H. “Bill” McDonald Sr. 87 passed away peacefully Thursday, August 4 at daughters of Sarah nursing home. Bill was born to Leroy MacDonald and Florence Mary (Pogroszewski )MacDonald he was the second of four children. All but his dear sister Lorraine “Dolly” Berkman have passed. Bill lived in the Albany area his whole life. Enjoyed an array of activities and interests, farming, skiing both water and snow, playing the violin, golf and playing cards to name a few. Enjoy time with his family at his Camp on Lake George and his condominium in Miami Florida where he also volunteered for the Miami Police Department.
Bill or Sonny as he was lovingly called, was a master bricklayer, stonemason, and owner operator of WH McDonald and Sons general contracting and masonry. He worked on many of homes, fireplaces and office buildings in the Albany New York area as well as Miami Florida. His craftsmanship was very sought after.
He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Ellen, Betty Ann and Theresa Mary and his sons William H. Jr, Thomas Anthony and Sean Joseph. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Christina McKeon McDonald and son Brian Francis. He leaves behind a second wife Pauline Fitzgerald McDonald he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours Tuesday from 9:00-10:00am at the church of St. Mary 163 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer,where a funeral mass will follow at 10:00am.
Interment will be in New Rural Cemetery.
