Utica Comets empty Syracuse Crunch, 1-0

SYRACUSE, NY — The Syracuse Crunch was beaten 1-0 by the Utica Comets tonight at the Upstate Medical University Arena.

The loss sets a six-game points streak for the crunch, putting the team at 18-14-3-3 for the season. Syracuse still holds a 4-1-1-0 lead in the 14-game season series against Utica.

Crunch goaltender Hugo Alnefelt saved 29 of 30 shots while Akira Schmid stopped all 23 shots for the Comets in the net.

Syracuse went 0-4 on the power play but a perfect 3-3 on penalties.

After a scoreless first third, the Comets broke the stalemate and scored the only goal of the game by 7:21 into midfield. After gaining control of the puck during a fight in the corner, Joe Gambardella sled it to the net and fed Graeme Clarke for a one-timer in the slot.

The Crunch takes on the Hartford Wolf Pack tomorrow.
