Syracuse men’s basketball renews rivalry with Colgate

SYRAKUS, NY (Syracuse Athletics) –

Syracuse and Colgate will renew the most common rivalry in orange basketball history when neighboring rivals clash in the Dome on Saturday, November 20th. The two programs had ended their long-running, consecutive season of 26 series played in 2020-21 due to the pandemic.

Serial notes

· Colgate are Syracuse’s best-known opponents, with the two clubs having clashed 172 times.

· Orange leads the all-time series against the Raiders (127-45) and has won 54 games in a row against their roommates in Central New York.

· The teams first met in 1902 when the Orange won 33-8.

Colgate’s most recent win over Syracuse came on February 24, 1962 at Manley Field House, 67:63.

In the 2019-20 pairing, Orange triumphed 70-54 behind 17 points from Buddy Boeheim.

The Raiders were 14-2 in total and won their second title in the Patriot League in 2020/21. Colgate lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to third-placed Arkansas, 85-68. Coach Matt Langel enters his eleventh year at the helm at Hamilton, where he holds a record of 153-153.

Syracuse was 18-10 years old last season and secured a spot in the NCAA tournament for the third year in a row that the competition was played. The 11th-seeded Orange angered San Diego State and West Virginia to advance to Sweet 16 before losing to Houston in the Final Four.
