Suffolk County police officer stabbed to death while being promoted to detective

PATCHOGUE, Long Island (WABC) – A Suffolk County police officer who was stabbed on duty was promoted to detective Monday.

Chris Racioppo was stabbed in the leg by a suspected drunk driver during a fight in Patchogue on April 10. A main artery was severed and Racioppo almost died.

“Officer Racioppo is nothing short of a hero,” said Bellone, Suffolk County’s executive officer. “Four months ago, Officer Racioppo was killed in seconds, but today Officer Racioppo has miraculously recovered and will return to the department as Detective Racioppo.” EMBED> More News Videos
