Ric Flair recalls learning he was going to win the 1992 Royal Rumble

Ric Flair didn’t have the idea of becoming world champion when he found out he was going to win the 1992 Royal Rumble match in Albany, New York.

Flair’s only rumble match win saw him win the WWF Championship, which had been vacated after a controversial title swap involving Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker in November 1991.

Flair recalled winning the title on his podcast To Be The Man. He said,

“Believe it or not, Jake Roberts told me that day at the gym and I didn’t believe Jake. He said, “Congratulations! I heard you win today!’ I said, “What are you talking about?” That was the last thing on my mind.”

Flair would lose the title to “Macho Man” Randy Savage at WrestleMania 8, but regain the gold later that same year.
