Mikel Jones ‘Buzzy Name’ at the NFLPA Bowl

Former Syracuse linebacker Mikel Jones was a “popular” and “busy” name at the NFLPA Bowl this past week, according to a report by The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler.

“LB Mikel Jones (Syracuse) was a popular name in the NFLPA and faced a long list of teams including the Bills, 49ers, Chargers, Titans and Steelers,” Fowler said in a tweet. “Versatile LB which has been a busy name for the past few weeks.”

Mikel Jones led the American team, which won Saturday’s game with five tackles, 19-17.

Jones had a distinguished career at Syracuse. During his time with Orange, he accumulated 301 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, four interceptions, six pass deflections, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He declared himself for the NFL Draft after the season.

“First of all, I want to thank God for everything He has helped me with throughout my college career and for the previous positions that have helped me get this far,” Jones said in the post. “I would like to thank my mother and grandparents for the unconditional love and support they have shown me through the many ups and downs of my career. I wouldn’t have made it this far without her.

“The relationships I have formed with my teammates, coaches, fellow athletes and students will always mean the world to me because they taught me lessons and helped me grow into a better young man during my time at Syracuse.

“Ever since I put on a helmet for the first time at the age of four, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the NFL. My hard work and dedication to my 4 year old self’s dream has given me the opportunity to make this a reality.

“The last four years of my life have given me some of the best moments of my life that I will treasure forever. However, I will forego my last year of eligibility and am drafting the 2023 NFL Draft. Thanks Cuse Nation.”
