Louisville Basketball loses to Syracuse in the first game of the new year

University of Louisville basketball players and coaches said they would treat the New Year like a blank slate, and Syracuse would be the first Test. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Tuesday’s game against the Orange had a familiar ending. UofL came close to the wire with Syracuse but ultimately failed to pull out the win, losing 70-69. This wasn’t a one-sided loss or like some of the one-point losses earlier this season. UofL played a good game for the most part, apart from struggling not to turn the ball over and ending the evening with 21 points. El Ellis was the top scorer for UofL with 20 points and he had the help of Mike James who scored 19. Louisville shot well from field and three-point land, shooting 42.9% and 40%, respectively. While the team didn’t have many free throw attempts, UofL shot under 50% from the line. UofL overtook the Orange 38-33 on the night and had seven steals. Syracuse’s Joseph Girard was tough to stop for UofL, going 4-8 from three and ending the game with 28 points, 10 of which came from free throws. Louisville will continue the ACC game at home when they take on Wake Forest on Saturday at 3 p.m
