BOISE, Idaho, Jan. 13, 2023 /CSRwire/ —KeyBank has awarded a $150,000 grant to Create Common Good (CCG), a nonprofit organization that prepares at-risk adults in Idaho for successful careers in the hospitality industry. The KeyBank grant will enable Create Common Good to expand its ServSafe Training career preparation program to include certification and job placement assistance for inmates after release.
Since 2008, Create Common Good has worked with Idaho residents facing economic difficulties, helping to bridge the gap between those who want to work and the employment needs of the community. The ServSafe training program provides Idaho Correctional Services inmates with vocational training in the hospitality industry to build the confidence and skills needed for future employment.
“Create Common Good’s work, through programs like the ServSafe job training program, provides the confidence and education our incarcerated populations so desperately need to find sustainable employment, escape poverty and hopefully reduce recidivism,” said Scott Schlange , President of KeyBank Idaho. “KeyBank is proud to support this valuable and much-needed community initiative and we look forward to expanding the program.”
“The generous support of the KeyBank Foundation will allow CCG to expand our food service training program to inmates in Idaho Correctional Facilities,” said Cyn Dalton, CEO of Create Common Good. “Our goal is to reduce recidivism by supporting them with skills acquisition and job placement.”
Food made as part of the ServSafe training program may also be distributed to Opportunity Zone, a program that serves food-insecure families and children.
Creating for the common good
Create Common Good (CCG) has been training adults with barriers to employment for thirteen years: refugees, the non-chronic homeless, people with substance abuse or non-violent criminal records and/or mental health issues. Our two-stage program lasts eight weeks but can be extended for individual needs. Trainees learn proper nutritional protocols including temperature control, hygiene, storage and allergens. During more than 150 hours of classroom and kitchen instruction, trainees are also assessed and mentored in terms of professional soft skills: following instructions, teamwork, attendance, time management, creating resumes, mock interviews and interacting with peers. After graduation, CCG helps with application and securing employment.
