SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) — Four people were evicted from their home in an early morning fire on Syracuse’s Northside at approximately 6:23 a.m. Tuesday, January 10

Syracuse firefighters were alerted by the 911 Center to a home in the Highland Street area near Graves Street with heavy smoke, which was 107 Graves Street.

Firefighters from Station 9 on Shuart Avenue and Station 2 on Lodi Street reached the area in less than four minutes.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke spreading onto the street and began searching for the source of the smoke.

Within moments, it was determined that 107 Graves Street was the burning house, as smoke billowed from the roof eaves and skylights.

Several firefighters stretched hoses into the home while others began searching for residents. There were four people in the two family home at the time of the fire.

Only one occupant of the second floor apartment could spot it on their own. Three occupants of the ground floor apartment were escorted by firefighters and all made it out safely.

The fire was localized in an attic above the apartment on the second floor and was able to prevent the fire from spreading further to the rest of the house thanks to the quick deployment of firefighters with hose lines.

36 firefighters, including command and support personnel, responded to the fire and stayed on site to clear the house of smoke and toxic gases.

The American Red Cross is currently assisting the displaced inmates and there are no casualties to report.

The fire is being investigated by Syracuse Fire Investigators. SFD thanks its partners at the 911 Center, the Syracuse Police Department, AMR and the American Red Cross.
