dr Neil deGrasse Tyson cancels Syracuse show days after tickets went on sale

An upcoming show in Syracuse has been canceled days after tickets went on sale.

Rock star astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson was scheduled to speak at the Landmark Theater on Oct. 27 as part of his “Cosmic Collisions Tour.” Tickets for the “mind-expanding” science lecture went on sale June 17, but the show was quietly axed this week.

A representative for the Landmark Theater said the show was canceled “due to a scheduling issue.” They did not know if it will be rescheduled at a later date.

According to the Ticketmaster website, ticketholders will automatically be refunded within 30 days; credit options may also be available to use towards another Ticketmaster event. If tickets were transferred from another person, the refund will go to the fan who originally purchased the tickets.

Tyson is still currently scheduled to appear in other cities this fall, including Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 23; Atlanta, Georgia, on Sept. 28; Boston, Massachusetts, on Sept. 29; Washington, DC, on Sept. 30; San Jose, California, on Oct. 13; Hartford, Connecticut, on Dec. 1; and Newark, NJ, on Dec. 8. A Baltimore stop on Dec. 6 has been canceled.

The planetary scientist, educator and author has become a pop culture icon with TV shows like “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” and “StarTalk,” plus appearances on “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Simpsons,” and “The Late Show Starring Stephen Colbert.” He also serves as director of the Hayden Planetarium at New York’s American Museum of Natural History.
