DEC Announces Launch of State Lands Kiosk Survey | Local Announcements

ALBANY – New York State Department of Environment (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the release of the new DEC Kiosk Poll to gather public input on information kiosk signage on DEC properties. Feedback received will help inform DEC improvements to signage at information kiosks across the state.

“DEC encourages New Yorkers to get outside, visit the many beautiful DEC properties and give us feedback on the signs you see while there,” Commissioner Seggos said. “With feedback from our visitors, DEC can meaningfully improve our signage and provide an enhanced outdoor experience.”

Kiosks are small, open wooden structures that cover educational and informational signs with trail maps, emergency numbers and other important information. Kiosks are located on various state properties such as state forests, wilderness areas, nature reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, boat docks and more.

By participating in the survey, participants enter the survey sweepstakes. Each month from January 2023 to January 2024, a lucky winner’s name will be randomly drawn from the survey responses received that month. The winner will receive a free subscription to DEC’s Conservationist magazine and a $50 gift card to a sporting goods store. In January 2024, DEC will announce the grand prize winner, which will be drawn from all those who have correctly submitted the survey over the 12 month period. The grand prize winner will receive a free subscription to Conservationist and a $200 gift card to a sporting goods store. Individuals can submit multiple surveys per month, but only one survey response per kiosk location.

Individuals wishing to participate in the survey are encouraged to use DEC’s Info Locator to find a complete list of state lands to visit. Once at a kiosk, visitors can simply use their smartphones to access the survey and complete the questions, or check the kiosk signage and complete the survey later. DEC encourages visitors to provide detailed feedback and photos when possible.
