A Massachusetts boy who was shot dead in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston on Sunday was targeted, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said. A family member identified the victim as 13-year-old Tyler Lawrence, whose identity was later confirmed by the Boston Police Department. The shooting happened near the intersection of Fremont and Babson streets around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, police officials said, found Lawrence of Norwood at the area of 119 Babson St. with multiple gunshot wounds. Police said Boston Emergency Medical Services personnel responded at the scene, but Lawrence died from his injuries before he could be taken to a hospital. Investigators believe Lawrence was targeted and that the shooting was not a random attack. “We think it was targeted. We don’t think it was an accidental act of violence, but we don’t know for sure yet,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden. Investigators are speaking to witnesses and are also reviewing possible video evidence. At this point, there are few replies and no arrests. “It’s just a tragic loss for the city to see a teenager go so lost,” Hayden said.
