Carol Marie Talmage, 90 – RiverheadLOCAL

Carol Marie (Burns) Talmage died on January 27, 2023 at her home in Riverhead. She was 90 years old.

She was born in Riverhead on May 15, 1932 to Eleanor (Galow) and William Burns.

She attended SUNY Oneonta and SUNY Cortland and earned a bachelor’s degree in education.

Carol married John H. Talmage on June 28, 1952 in Riverhead. Together they raised a family of four children. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Carol has been a member of the Baiting Hollow Congregational Church Choir, Central Suffolk Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Riverhead Garden Club, Friends of Riverhead Library, the Home Bureau and was leader of the Brownie Troupe.

She died on February 14, 2022 before her nearly 70-year-old husband, leaving behind their children Laura Talmage Goode, William Talmage and Ellen Talmage, all of Baiting Hollow, and Henry Talmage of Albany, New York. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Meredith (Goode) Barry of Wading River, Emily (Goode) Flood of Aquebogue, William Goode of Baiting Hollow, Cory Bernagozzi of Baiting Hollow, Kyle Talmage of Baiting Hollow, Kelly (Talmage) Shauger of Southold, Kaitlyn Talmage of Baiting Hollow, Taylor Talmage of Wading River, Clayton Talmage of Riverhead, Arden Talmage of Saratoga Springs, and Corrine Talmage of Saratoga Springs, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Roger Burns of Marco Island, Florida and Douglas Burns of Riverhead.

The family will receive visitors Monday, January 30 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home, 336 Marcy Avenue, Riverhead.

A memorial service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, January 31 at Baiting Hollow Congregational Church on Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow, where Rev. Stan Knavel will officiate. Burial will be in Baiting Hollow Congregational Church Cemetery.
