Boston MA attack on Faneuil Hall – NBC Boston

In what authorities have described as “tragic,” a 68-year-old man was reportedly attacked and thrown to the ground outside a bar in Boston’s Faneuil Hall neighborhood last weekend.

According to the Suffolk County Attorney’s Office, it happened outside JJ Donovan’s Tavern early Sunday morning while the victim was enjoying a family celebration.

Robert Buckley, 43, of Plymouth, has been arrested and faces charges of assault and assault on a person over 60, according to a prosecutor’s press release.

A family witness to the attack was able to identify the suspect to police after officers found a man matching the description on Atlantic Avenue and High Street, prosecutors said. The victim of the attack was arrested for a serious neck injury that “could have lifelong consequences.” General Hospital, according to the prosecutor’s office. The victim may also need plastic surgery for a “severe laceration” on his forehead.

“It is tragic that this innocent man celebrates with his family and suddenly falls on the ground with injuries that could affect the rest of his life, and tragic that it all happened in front of his family,” said Kevin Hayden, District Attorney of Suffolk County wrote in the press release, “Our victim witness attorneys are in touch with the victim and his family and will remain with them throughout the trial.”

Buckley was being held in lieu of $2,000 bail after he was charged Monday. He is expected in court on February 16 for a probable cause hearing.

No further details were released, including what may have triggered or led to the attack.
