Adam Weitsman has over $1M in NIL with players

Businessman and top SU booster Adam Weitsman isn’t just focused on signing name, image and likeness agreements with basketball and football recruits — he’s also working on NIL agreements with current Syracuse Orange student athletes.

Weitsman has informed me that he has signed ZERO contracts with eight existing ‘Cuse players across multiple sports. He is also in the process of finalizing NIL agreements with five other SU physical education students.

Adam Weitsman noted that if these 13 deals are all closed, they will total more than $1 million. He declined to give details of individual agreements, including their financial value and duration.

Similar to future high school recruits he plans to sign NIL deals with, as far as his deals with current SU players go, these student-athletes will not market Weitsman’s deals.

Rather, as he has told me numerous times over the past few months, Weitsman’s NIL opportunities will be focused on community service, civic and philanthropic efforts in the 315 and 607 area codes.

For the Syracuse Orange players who have signed their NIL contracts with Weitsman, he said their civil society efforts and initiatives will begin soon.

Let’s look at which Syracuse Orange players have signed NIL deals with Adam Weitsman.

Six of the eight signed NIL agreements are with Syracuse basketball players on the men’s side. They are senior shooting guard Joe Girard III, senior guard Symir Torrence, sophomore forward Benny Williams, freshman point guard Judah Mintz, redshirt junior forward John Bol Ajak and freshman big man Peter Carey.

Incidentally, Carey is out for the remainder of the 2022-23 season after recently undergoing surgery on his right knee, according to head coach Jim Boeheim, who said the 6-foot-11 center will wear a medical redshirt this year .

Weitsman also officially signed a NIL deal with Syracuse women’s basketball senior guard Dyaisha Fair. And Weitsman’s eighth NIL deal signed is with Alijah Clark, a defender for Syracuse football.

Regarding the five NIL deals being finalized, Adam Weitsman declined to identify these SU players but said they are from Syracuse’s soccer program and Orange’s men’s basketball program.

In addition, Weitsman is working on other NIL deals with student-athletes but declined to give details.

As Adam Weitsman works with current SU athletic students, he also works to reach NIL agreements with high school recruits in basketball and soccer. Weitsman has stressed to me that he doesn’t talk to high school players and their families about Syracuse Orange or other college/university sports teams.

That’s because Weitsman’s NIL opportunities cannot be used as an incentive (“pay-for-play”) for a high school recruit to commit to a particular college or university.

Late last month, Weitsman offered 2024 five-star point guard Elliot Cadeau, who had Syracuse basketball in his top 6, a three-year, seven-figure NIL deal. However, Cadeau verbal commitment to North Carolina.

A few days ago, Weitsman told me his #1 target for NIL odds in Class of 2024 is four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore of New York City, who recently added the orange to his top 5.

I will certainly be speaking to Adam Weitsman regularly to learn more about future NIL deals he may be working on with current SU players as well as high school prospects.
