Adam Weitsman discusses 7-digit NIL with 5-stars

Businessman, philanthropist, and top SU booster Adam Weitsman tells me he’s in talks with Syracuse’s new basketball recruiting target, Boogie Fland, and his family about a combined multi-year, seven-figure name, image, and likeness agreement.

With those discussions ongoing, Weitsman declined to provide further details, including whether he will match the 6-foot-3 Fland, a 2024 five-star point guard who is one of the top high school prospects in New York is state and has offered a NIL deal across the country in its class.

Just last week, Orange coaches offered a scholarship to Fland, an outstanding junior at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, NY. In grassroots basketball, he competes for the PSA Cardinals of Bronx, NY in Nike’s EYBL league.

As one of the most in-demand players of 2024, Fland has received around 30 offers for his recruitment from a number of high-major programs. In addition to the ‘Cuse, Alabama recently offered Fland. The Crimson Tide is led by head coach Nate Oats, who was a former Buffalo boss before going to the Southeastern Conference.

Adam Weitsman talks massive NIL with Boogie Fland, the five-star basketball player from Syracuse.

In addition to Orange and Alabama, Fland’s supply sheet includes North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, Villanova, UCLA, UConn, Oregon, Indiana, LSU, Auburn, Michigan, Illinois, Maryland, Miami, Pittsburgh, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Unter other TCU, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Louisville, Florida and Oklahoma.

All primary recruitment services rank him as a five star prospect in 2024. Nationally, major recruitment websites do not rank him 16th overall.

When On3 updated their 2024 national rankings for the junior cycle, Fland was 5th nationally, 1st in point guard and 2nd in New York.

As we wrote on Saturday, Adam Weitsman informed me that he has signed NIL agreements with eight existing Syracuse Orange players in men’s basketball, women’s basketball and soccer.

Weitsman is also in the process of finalizing NIL deals with five other SU student athletes. Combined, these 13 NIL packages add up to more than $1 million, he says.

Regardless, as we discussed in another recent column, when it comes to NIL, Adam Weitsman is extremely high on the 2024 four-star shooting guard, Elijah Moore of New York City.

The 6-foot-4 Moore, from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY, and the Bronx, NY-based Wiz Kids in the adidas league at the AAU circuit, recently included Syracuse basketball in their top 5 and might be making a college decision soon.

Whether with current Syracuse Orange athletic students or high school prospects, Weitsman says his NIL opportunities will focus on community service, civic and philanthropic efforts in the 315 and 607 area codes, rather than marketing his companies.

Regarding high school recruits and NIL discussions with them and their families, Adam Weitsman has stressed to me on numerous occasions that he does not bring up Syracuse University or any other college/university because that type of NIL -Deals cannot be used as a form of incentive (“pay-for-play”) for a high school player to commit to a particular college or university.

It’s exciting to hear that Weitsman is speaking to Fland about NIL. Whichever school lands him will have a groundbreaking commitment in the 2024 cycle. For me, a crucial component here is that the Orange coaching team take him to visit the hill at some point in the future.

We’ll continue to chat with Adam Weitsman about his various discussions of NIL agreements with existing Syracuse Orange physical education students and high school recruits.
