2 police officers stabbed in Medford – NBC New York

Two Long Island police officers were stabbed to death after responding to a call at a condominium complex, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The incident happened around 5pm Wednesday when a case worker investigating two residents living along the Birchwood Road complex in Medford called police and said one of the residents had been violent towards the other.

Police said the person drew a knife on officers responding to the scene and then shortly after stabbed two of the officers at the scene. The officers then opened fire on the man, killing him.

One of the officers suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to the hospital, Suffolk County Police Chief John Rowan said. The other officer who was stabbed was also taken to Stony Brook Medical Center.

Suffolk County Police Department Benevolent Association President Noel DiGerlamo said in a statement that both officers are in “critical but stable condition,” adding that “God willing, they are recovering completely from the horrific incident will recover”.

A third officer who was not stabbed was treated for minor injuries. It was not known how he got his injuries.

An investigation is underway.
