Terriers open the battle against Syracuse on Burgh Saturday

The Boston University women’s ice hockey team opens on Saturday in the opening round of the Battle at the Burgh against Syracuse at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Pittsburgh on Saturday 2022. The terriers will then face either Penn State or St. Cloud State. The puck drop on Saturday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The consolation game on Sunday is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., the championship competition is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

TERRIER SLICED

  • BU has won four of the last six games, but lost the 2021 final in 7/8 Yale 3-2.
  • Senior Courtney Correia provided the main assist for both Terrier goals to extend their streak to four games.
  • Correia leads the Terriers in goals (10), assists (10) and is one of only three league skaters with at least 20 points.
  • Junior Julia Nearis is tied with Correia for the team management in the assists.
  • The Terriers have won 43 to 46 (0.935) on penalties in their last 12 games, including a 19v19 stretch that ended with a 5v3 goal from BC in the Terriers’ third period ’21. Win November.
  • Twenty different Terriers have scored at least one point while 12 different BU Skaters have at least one goal.
  • Nineteen of these 20 point producers have multiple points.

RECOGNIZING THE ORANGE

  • Syracuse last played against Princeton on December 11th and suffered a 2-1 home setback in the second of a series of two games.
  • The Orange and the Tigers drew 4-4 the day before.
  • Syracuse enters 2022 with a 1-3-2 record in its last six competitions.
  • Senior Abby Moloughney leads Syracuse with 15 points thanks to eight assists and seven goals in the team.
  • Freshman Madison Primeau has also scored seven goals.
  • Freshman Sarah Marchand is second in the squad thanks to five goals and nine assists with the best nine assists with 14 points.
  • Senior goalkeeper Arielle DeSmet has started 13 of the 16 games she has appeared in, breaking a 5-6-3 record with one shutout.
  • DeSmet has a save percentage of 0.931 and an average of 2.25 goals.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

  • This is the first time BU and Syracuse have met.
  • The Orange will become the 34th Division I team the Terriers have played against in program history and the 31st current Division I team the Terriers have faced.
  • Only Bemidji State, Colgate, Lindenwood and the entire NEWHA conference remain unknown enemies to the terriers.

NEXT

  • After this weekend’s tournament, BU is returning to Massachusetts for a home and home series against Boston College starting Friday, January 7th in Chestnut Hill.
  • The two rivals will skate at Walter Brown Arena on Saturday, January 8th at 4pm
