‘No excuse for that’: Holbrook man fatally injured dog with kick: SPCA

HOLBROOK, NY — A Holbrook man kicked a dog, fatally injuring the animal and threatening its owner at his home last month, the Suffolk Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.

A local animal hospital reported the suspicious death of a dog to the Suffolk County Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on December 20, prompting an investigation that included a forensic autopsy at Cornell University, SPCA chief Roy Gross said.

The autopsy revealed that the 11-year-old “hunter” suffered blunt force trauma, from which Gross said he died shortly thereafter. He could not say more because of the investigation.

“We take this very seriously,” he said. “There is no excuse for that.”

Investigators determined that Scott Walker kicked the dog at his home on Dolphin Lane, which caused the injuries that resulted in the dog’s death and also threatened the dog’s owner, another resident of the home, Gross said.

Walker, 44, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty, animal cruelty, criminal mischief, second-degree aggravated molestation and third-degree assault.

If convicted, Walker could face several years in prison for the main felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty, Gross said.

He was held overnight in the 6th Ward in Selden and is due to be charged in the First Circuit Court in Central Islip on January 12.
