Nick Monroe leaves Syracuse for Minnesota (report)

Syracuse assistant Nick Monroe is expected to leave the orange and take a position as co-defensive coordinator with Minnesota, according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Monroe was the defensive pass game coordinator at Syracuse last season and was the interim defensive coordinator at the Pinstripe Bowl when the Orange put together one of their better defensive performances of the season. This was after Tony White left to take the position of defense coordinator in Nebraska, for which Syracuse hired Rocky Long as White’s replacement.

Considered one of the best recruiters with strong Florida ties, Monroe was part of Orange’s increased effort in New Jersey in the 2023 and 2024 cycles. Syracuse now needs to replace one of their better defense assistants and recruiters heading into the spring.

It’s been an offseason of changes for Syracuse, who lost both coordinators last week. Robert Anae took over the job as offensive coordinator at NC State while Tony White departed to become Nebraska’s defensive coordinator. The Orange named Jason Beck as their new offensive coordinator, while Rocky Long was hired as their new defensive coordinator. This followed a 7-6 2022 campaign that culminated in a Pinstripe Bowl loss to Minnesota.
