GAME REVIEW

A slip that almost resulted in disaster, but a clutch nudge from Jesse Edwards secured Syracuse a 70-69 win in Louisville. With the win, the Orange improved to 10-5 (3-1) on the season while the Cardinals fell to 2-13 (0-4). Next up for Syracuse on Saturday is a big step up in the competition to No. 11 in Virginia.

Joe Girard made some big shots on the track including clutch errors that put Syracuse in position to win. Saving three by less than 15 seconds, Syracuse used his two fouls to give and then fouled Louisville guard El Ellis to put him on the line for one and one. Ellis made both of them reduce the lead to one.

The ball landed at Judah Mintz, who charged onto the pitch trying to run as much clock time as possible before being fouled as he slipped just past midfield. When he slipped and fell to the ground, the ball bounced out and bounced straight into Louisville. Ellis sped onto the court from a deficit and had a chance to give the Cardinals an exciting last-second win. Jesse Edwards was behind him, reaching in and jabbing the ball as Ellis started to get into the line, creating a loose ball. Benny Williams dived on it and the clock ran out.

It wasn’t a pretty game by any means, as Louisville is perhaps the worst high-major program in the country, filming it 21 times, 14 of them in the first half. Still, Syracuse trailed by one at halftime, by as much as nine throughout the game, and by five in under six minutes. Girard then hit a pair of threes and four free throws on the stretch to pair up with Mintz, who got a couple of steals and four late points.
