Fromm Buffalo with love: Giants sign Buffalo Bill’s QB from the training team

When the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft kicked off, the Buffalo Bills had no intention of selecting a quarterback.

The team had already invested in Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft, but GM Brandon Beane told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that Fromm was “too good to pass up”. Time will tell if Bene’s instincts were correct, but Fromm’s professional development won’t take place in west New York. On Tuesday, the New York Giants added Fromm to their 53-man roster from the BIlls exercise team.

He served as Buffalo Emergency Covid quarterback during Fromm’s rookie year. That means the rookie was kept out of the rest of the team’s QB room, so few media members saw Fromm train a lot in his first season. That year, Fromm stepped up to become Buffalo’s No. 3 quarterback. Buffalo had signed Mitch Trubisky as a freelance agency to replace Josh Allen, so Fromm competed with Davis Webb for the # 3 job. Neither of these was enough to warrant a spot on the 53-man roster, and both were added to the team’s training team shortly after roster cuts.

Fromm hasn’t appeared in a regular season game yet, but with the Giants in last place on NFC East and looking towards 2022, it doesn’t hurt the team to look at a quarterback like Fromm. The team can evaluate Fromm daily in training and possibly provide him with live game action before the end of the season.
