BUMBLE – An opening reception will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Western New York Book Arts Center, 468 Washington St. for “Caffeinated Injustices,” an exhibit by artist Bianca L. McGraw, who paints with coffee to express her reactions to the mass shooting The works also include a Black Lives Matter movement-inspired sculpture by McGraw made entirely of Lego bricks. RELAX – The 36th Annual Jerry Starr Ken-Ton Schools Sleepout begins at 6pm on Friday, one of the coldest nights of winter, at the Hoover Schools Complex, 199 Thorncliff Road, Town of Tonawanda. Some will spend the night indoors while others brave the elements outside in coolers to raise awareness of the homeless’ struggles and raise funds for the Family Support Center and the Ken-Ton Closet. Ice fishing demonstrations, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter activities for children are offered at Winter Wonderland in the Woods from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Reinstein Woods, 93 Honorine Drive off Como Park Boulevard, Cheektowaga. The SPCA Wildlife Department will speak on wildlife rehabilitation at 12:30 p.m. and rangers will lead an ice rescue demonstration at 1:30 p.m. It’s free. No registration needed. HELP FOR VETS – A Veterans Benefit Outreach will be held on Saturday from 2:30pm to 3:30pm at Brighton Place Library, 999 Brighton Road, Town of Tonawanda. Department of Veterans Affairs Field Examiner RJ Bishop will be present to answer questions on eligibility and enrollment, toxic exposure screening and women’s health.
