Dominant third quarter leads Syracuse past Boston College

Syracuse women’s basketball used a 13-1 run early in the third quarter to pull away from Boston College en route to an 83-73 away win. With the win, the Oranges improved to 13-4 (4-2) on the season while the Eagles fell to 13-6 (3-3). Next, SU faces a tough challenge as #7 Notre Dame comes to the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday.

Syracuse had a first-half lead, but Boston College made a run to reduce the lead to just three at halftime. The Orange then came hot out of the dressing room and used excellent ball movement to score open looks for Dariauna Lewis, Alaina Rice, Asia Strong and Dyaisha Fair.

However, the Eagles would not walk away. A 9-0 run in the fourth quarter would cut the lead to four. Just minutes later, Syracuse’s lead was three and Boston College had a shot in the air to equalize. Taina Mair’s offer was up, and Syracuse would go on to score six straight points but quit the game.

Dyaisha Fair led all scorers with 25 points, along with six assists, four rebounds and three steals. Lewis had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Alaina Rice scored 17 off the bench on a 6-9 shootout. The Syracuse defense held BC on just 6-25 (24%) shots from beyond the arc and forced 22 Eagles turnovers.
