Buffalo State College is preparing to cut the ribbon for the new planetarium

BUFFALO, NY – Buffalo State College has a new planetarium on campus and you don’t have to be a student to visit.

The college will cut the ribbon on Friday in the new Academic Commons within the EH Butler Library as well as in the new Science and Mathematics Complex, which houses the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium.

The state-of-the-art software in the planetarium creates a 360-degree experience of the night sky. In addition to being an important part of the geosciences curriculum and research projects on campus, it is also intended to be open to the public on weekends and available for birthday parties and other private events.

“I’m so excited for the planetarium to open,” said planetarium director Kevin Williams in a statement. “Classes and other groups on campus who recently visited were blown away by the visualizations and the unique way of viewing the night sky and beyond in the immersive environment of the planetarium.”
