Buffalo Bills-Josh Allen has “no momentum” toward expansion

The Buffalo Bills and quarterback Josh Allen don’t have much movement on signing a new deal, according to a report by NFL Network’s Kim Jones:

On @ BuffaloBills-Josh Allen Extension: No current momentum towards deal. Could change. For example, if there is still no progress on August 15, the teams could agree on a table by post-season. Josh knows it’s not about WHEN he gets a deal in #BUF, it’s WHEN. Josh said the contract was “the least of my worries”.

Jones, who works for NFL Media, was at Bills’ training camp on Friday when he reported on the expansion update.

During the week, Buffalo quarterback and general manager Brandon Beane both relaxed and commented on the situation but provided no information on whether or not a deal could be closed before the regular season.

The potential deadline for August 15 comes shortly after the Bills’ first preseason game. Because of this, Allen could be the one pushing this date forward to just focus on the season and postpone negotiations until the 2022 offseason.

If that happens … it’s not a problem. The NFL’s salary cap has yet to be set for next season after COVID, and the QB is under contract until 2022.

Lots of time for both sides.
