Bills-Jets Injury Updates: Matt Milano, Jordan Phillips Not Training For Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills have a one-game lead over the AFC East, and this week they face division rivals the New York Jets, who beat them once before and put them on a path that has required them to fight their way back to the top job in the last month.

Though the Bills are healthier now, they’re still missing key elements on both offense and defense from this week’s practice.

Along with the big news that edge rusher Von Miller is now out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament tear, head coach Sean McDermott said both defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and linebacker Matt Milano will not practice today.

Phillips is struggling with a shoulder injury he sustained at trash time last Thursday when the Bills defeated the New England Patriots. Phillips was trying to chase New England quarterback Mac Jones when he hit the turf hard in a jump attempt to sack Jones. Phillips was later seen with his right arm in a sling.

Milano’s injury wasn’t apparent and when questioned, McDermott said he was “struggling with some kind of leg and knee issue”. However, in true McDermott fashion, the head coach said Milano was considered “day by day”.

On the offensive side of the ball, full-back Reggie Gilliam is still not training, while Dion Dawkins, who starts in the left tackle, and his replacement in last week’s game, David Quessenberry, will both have limited training today. The trio are struggling with ankle injuries – the bane of the Bills’ injury list this season.

Dawkins injured his ankle just before halftime in the same game Buffalo Miller lost. While the offensive tackle seemed to be moving well on the touchline on Thanksgiving Day, the Bills opted to take him out of the game at Gillette Stadium last week. His replacement Quesenberry was injured on the first offensive drive. After being picked up again on the sidelines while Bill’s kicker Tyler Bass gave the team a 3-0 lead, Quessenberry was back on offense for most of the rest of the game. As he struggled, the fifth-year veteran, who spent the last three years with the Tennessee Titans, understood the importance of the Week 13 game and struggled through the end of the fourth quarter.

We’ll update later today with a full injury list as well as a report from the New York Jets once that information becomes available.
