Albany County Man Sentenced to 188 Months Imprisonment for Transporting and Possessing Child Pornography | USAO-NDNY

ALBANY, NEW YORK – Christopher Eberlein, 55, of Albany, was sentenced today to 188 months in prison for transporting and possessing child pornography, US Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Albany Field special agent said Janeen DiGuiseppi Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

As part of his earlier admission of guilt, Eberlein admitted that he had transported more than 2,000 child pornographic files over the Internet for over a decade. Many of these pictures showed sexual abuse of newborns and infants. A subsequent search of Eberlein’s electronic devices revealed that he was also in possession of dozens of child pornographic files that he had stored on several electronic devices in his apartment.

US District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino also handed down a 20-year custody sentence, starting after Eberlein is released from prison. Eberlein also has to register as a sex offender.

Eberlein’s case has been investigated by the FBI and its Child Exploitation Task Force, which includes members of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including the New York State Police. The case was being followed up by Assistant US Attorney Rachel Williams as part of Project Safe Childhood.

Safe Childhood, launched in May 2006 by the Justice Department, is led by the US Attorney’s Office and the Department of Child Exploitation and Profanity (CEOS) of the Criminal Division. Project Safe Childhood is bringing together federal, state and local resources to better locate, arrest, and prosecute those who exploit children online, and to identify and rescue victims.
